I thought that strength in
diversity was an interesting topic. I believe that a group is more effective
when it is more diverse because I have seen it first hand with my groups. Of
course it will because the group is open-minded and willing to accept the
differences within the group. The diversity brings more vital perspective as
well as insight in solving problems or giving off ideas. It also brings more
options on how a group can solve a problem. Contributions and influences of
each member are effective especially in a group.
I personally like diverse
groups because I believe that means there are more ways to solve a problem. I
also like creatively sometimes the ideas and thoughts can be. Back in high
school I remember some of us would have the craziest ideas for projects. Being
diverse in a group is also helpful to the members because it will allow each member
to be more willing to listen and to contribute in the group. I honestly think
it is more fun when a group is diverse.
Hi Cynthia,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post and you brought up some interesting points. Diversity in a group is a component of a group that I also see as being important. When people come from different backgrounds and different ways of thinking it just stirs up creativity and productivity. When everyone thinks and see's everything the same then it is hard to think outside of the box because everyone is thinking the same thing. I also thing that a diverse group can bring many people like yourself into the spotlight because your craziness can spark thoughts in others. Diversity is important in groups and also important in society.
I feel that group diversity is actually tougher than it appears really. I could handle a bunch of asians being in my group since we know what to expect of each others cultures. But if you threw me in a group of hipsters and white Kanye Wests I would have a tougher time adapting to them.
ReplyDeleteI personally feel that diversity is good in a group as well but understanding each person's diversity is much more important. If we threw our work at each other as quickly as we could we could possibly end up angry at one another for miscommunications, false assumptions, and unmet expectations.
I feel that even if you have one common goal in a group of diverse people you would have a harder time meeting that goal if no one "gets" each other. If one group member is unhappy, the whole group suffers.
I don't agree that diversity can create more solutions. I believe that the compatibility of each persons traits are what creates more solutions.
My apologizes if this comment seemed like I'm picking at you. I'm really not.
